Location: The Heights Co-Occurring Treatment Center for Women – Jackson Street, St.
Paul, MN

Employment Type: Full-Time (Hourly)

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Reports To: Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)

Supervision: Minimum of one supervision session per month with LADC, per Minn. Stat. §
245I.04 Subd. 19

The Heights offers inpatient residential treatment for women at our facility on Jackson
Street. Our program is designed for women with substance-use and co-occurring mental health concerns, providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment focused on healing
and growth.

We believe in whole-person care that includes:
• Family education: Helping families learn, communicate, and support long-term
recovery.
• Visits with children: Providing a kid-friendly space to maintain connection during
treatment.
• Community recovery events: Encouraging engagement, belonging, and
accountability.

Position Summary:

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) provides strengths-based, recovery-oriented
support to women in The Heights’ co-occurring residential treatment program.
The CPRS draws upon lived recovery experience to mentor, guide, and empower clients in
developing coping skills, building community connections, and sustaining long-term
recovery.

All services are delivered in accordance with Minnesota Statutes §§ 245G, 245I, and
254B.052, emphasizing trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and professional ethics.
The CPRS works collaboratively with licensed staff to support client engagement, recovery
planning, and community reintegration.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide face-to-face recovery support consistent with client treatment and recovery
plans.
• Assist clients in developing relapse-prevention strategies, coping skills, and dailyliving routines.
• Support clients in accessing resources such as housing, employment, healthcare,
transportation, and sober-community activities.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-recovery and psychoeducational groups.
• Collaborate with counselors, case managers, and therapists to ensure coordinated
care.
• Maintain detailed, timely, and compliant DAP documentation per The Heights SOP
and DHS standards.
• Model ethical conduct, healthy boundaries, and integrity in recovery.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and supervision to maintain certification and
quality standards.
• Uphold confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.

**Qualifications**:

• Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential recognized by the Minnesota
DHS.
• Minimum 1 year of experience providing professional peer support.
• Minimum 1 year of continuous sobriety required.
• High-school diploma or GED required; College experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with women in early recovery from
substance use and trauma.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and co-occurring
recovery principles.

DHS and facility SOPs.
• Resource Navigation – Connects clients to supportive recovery and community
resources.
• Crisis Response – Recognizes, reports, and responds appropriately to safety
concerns.
Work Schedule:

Full-time position; schedule to be determined based on program needs. May include
evening or weekend hours to support client engagement and program coverage.

Supervision:
Supervised monthly at minimum by an LADC in compliance with Minn. Stat. § 245I.04
Subd. 19. Supervision focuses on client documentation, ethical practice, and professional
development.

Requirements:

• Must pass a DHS background study prior to hire and maintain eligibility for
employment in a licensed treatment facility.
• Must complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain CPRS
certification.
• Adherence to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and The Heights Code of Ethics is mandatory.

Position Overview

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) with Minnesota Hope Dealers provides peer-based recovery support, outreach, and education to individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health challenges. This position uses lived experience to build trust, offer hope, and connect people to culturally responsive recovery resources, harm reduction tools, and community supports.

The CPRS serves as a bridge between systems and the streets—meeting people where they are and helping them move toward wellness, stability, and recovery on their own terms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide peer-to-peer recovery support through outreach, individual meetings, and group facilitation.
  • Use lived experience to promote hope, empowerment, and self-determination in recovery.
  • Assist individuals in identifying strengths and setting achievable recovery and wellness goals.
  • Provide referrals and warm handoffs to treatment, housing, medical, and community support services.
  • Distribute harm reduction supplies (including naloxone and fentanyl test strips) and provide overdose prevention education.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation of services and participant interactions.
  • Participate in outreach events, recovery meetings, and community engagement activities led by Minnesota Hope Dealers.
  • Uphold the values of non-judgment, compassion, and inclusion in all interactions.
  • Attend regular team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to strengthen professional skills.
  • Represent Minnesota Hope Dealers in a professional and community-centered manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through the Minnesota Certification Board (MCB) or eligible within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have personal lived experience with substance use recovery and at least one year in stable recovery.
  • Commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and cultural humility.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and recovery supports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to work in community settings.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience conducting street outreach or working with people who use drugs.
  • Training or certification in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, or Harm Reduction Practices.
  • Familiarity with documentation systems, data collection, or reporting processes.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Somali, Hmong, etc.) are a plus.

Description

We are searching for a Peer Recovery Specialist to support clients by offering outreach, encouragement, and support. The Peer Recovery Specialist will cultivate and secure a connection with individuals, while teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model.

 

Pay ranges from $20-$22 per hour

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Empower clients by helping them identify and remove barriers to their recovery.

Connect clients to resources and organizations to help foster and sustain long‐term recovery.

Meet with clients on a regular basis to discuss routine recovery issues from a peer perspective.

Provide direct assistance in the form of transportation, filling out forms or making phone calls, and accompanying clients to appointments.

Assist in finding necessary community services to meet basic needs.

Interface with family members or other involved parties for the purpose of maintaining or enhancing a person’s functioning and recovery.

Provide education about self-help groups and sponsorship and assist clients in finding recovery support meetings that accommodate schedules, child care, etc.

Role model behavior that is consistent with and supportive to people in recovery from chemical dependency, such behavior will include upholding ethical standards of the program and reliable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

 

Required:

 

Completion of recovery coach training program offered by the MCB (training provided).

1+ years of experience providing support services in a behavioral health / chemical health setting.

Current and valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.

Preferred:

 

Demonstrated experience working with individuals recovering from addictions.

Ability to connect with, engage, and empathize with people from diverse backgrounds with multiple challenges.
